The Saying, and the Said

Studio 73 is pleased to present The Saying and the Said, a two-person exhibition featuring work by London-based artists Katy Binks and Lucy Spanyol. Their practices intersect within a discursive space where intuitive process and material experimentation give rise to layered, ambiguous visual languages. Spanyol’s psychologically charged compositions evolve through a negotiation of memory, gesture, and subconscious narrative, while Binks’ screen-printed works foreground the physical act of making—embracing accident, rhythm, and the generative possibilities of repetition. Together, their work resists fixed interpretation, inviting the viewer to engage in a slow reading of surface, symbol, and sensation.

Together, Binks and Spanyol offer two different approaches to what might be called visual speech—where gesture, image, and mark-making create their own forms of language. The Saying and the Said invites viewers to consider not only what is expressed, but how it is formed: the space between intention and interpretation, surface and suggestion.
