Known for her distinctive approach to silkscreen printmaking, Katy’s aesthetic is characterised by its unconventional spirit and a distinctive, hands-on approach. Her choice of paper stocks, inks and printing techniques are meticulous, enhancing the tactile experience of her works on paper. This considered approach to materials does little to suppress the unfettered dynamism of her prints and in recent years a looser, more intuitive approach has emerged. A tangible sense of freedom has invigorated her practice, which now bears more resemblance to painting than other, more traditional modes of edition-led printmaking.
Exploring the full creative potential of the silkscreen process – mono-printing, halftones, stencils, block colour and more – she works unplanned, printing intuitively layer-by-layer to works on paper that are uniquely complex. Rich in texture, subtle gradients, surprising overlaps and painterly details, Katy’s prints are vibrant, playful, and dynamic.
Works of art on paper // In contrast to traditional, edition-led printmaking, Katy’s approach emphasises variation. Prints in a series all share a common foundation, and yet she encourages each print within a series to evolve into its own unique entity – shaped by variations in composition, colour and touch.
Lightweight and tactile, unique silkscreen prints hold a timeless appeal due to their versatility and intimate scale. Each print offers a unique insight into Katy’s creative process. The handmade, archival nature of the materials adds richness, with features like deckled edges enhancing their tactile appeal. The versatility and relative affordability of works on paper allows them to be purchased individually or in groups – offering flexible, engaging display options for domestic and commercial settings.
Formats // Katy makes silkscreen prints on paper, wood, and canvas. Sizes range from smaller-scale (25cm x 35cm, for example) to much larger formats (56cm x 76cm, 112cm x76 cm, etc.). She prints on high quality papers, frequently preferring Somerset Satin.
Framing and delivery can be arranged, and custom commissions are available on request.
